About PkDaTa
PkDaTa is a free suite of data tools for competitive Pokémon VGC — the official double-battle format played at Regionals, International Championships, and Worlds. The goal is narrow and practical: take the match data that competitive players actually generate, turn it into numbers you can trust, and put those numbers behind concrete team-building decisions. No accounts, no paywalls, no sign-ups. The tools are meant to answer questions a real player asks the week before an event — which partners actually raise my win rate, which coverage move closes the most gaps, and what EV spread hits every benchmark at once.
Where the data comes from
Every statistic on the Site is built from real games, not opinion or tier lists. Three independent sources feed the pipeline, each chosen because it answers a different question:
- Official tournament results (RK9). Standings, team sheets, and pairings from sanctioned VGC events — the closest thing to ground truth for what wins on the day. Official top-cut data is shallow by nature (a Regional is on the order of a thousand players), so it is used to anchor, not to stand alone.
- Online tournament play (Limitless). Large-volume bracketed online events, which provide the sample size that official data cannot. This is the backbone of the win-rate and core statistics.
- Ladder replays (Pokémon Showdown). Usage, spreads, items, and moves across skill brackets and both Best-of-1 and Best-of-3, giving a read on what the broader field is actually bringing.
How the numbers are made
Win rates and cores are computed from the outcomes of decided games: which Pokémon were brought, which side won, and over how many matches. We show sample sizes alongside the numbers on purpose, because a 60% win rate over 40 games and the same figure over 4,000 games are not the same claim. Damage and survival math in the Coverage and EV tools is calculated one-to-one with in-game mechanics — the same stat, nature, item, ability, and field interactions the cartridge uses — rather than estimated.
We try to be honest about uncertainty rather than to sell certainty. Most metagames sit near equilibrium, where real edges are a few percent rather than "broken," and a freshly released regulation has too little data to make strong claims about absolute strength. Where that is the case, the tools lean on the part of the signal that is trustworthy — matchup and coverage structure — and say so.
The tools
- Win Rate Identifier. Enter a partial team and see every partner and core that measurably raises its win rate, each shown with the number of games behind it.
- Coverage Optimizer. Pick up to six Pokémon and their moves and get the single best coverage move to add — per Pokémon and team-wide — ranked by the share of the current meta it brings into OHKO/2HKO range.
- EV Optimizer. Hand off a team and solve for the minimum stat-point spread that meets every survival, KO, and speed benchmark simultaneously, then fine-tune the breakpoints.
Who makes it
PkDaTa is an independent project built and maintained by a single VGC player and data hobbyist (DyreWolf), not a company. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Nintendo, Game Freak, The Pokémon Company, Pokémon Showdown, Limitless, or RK9 Labs. "Pokémon" and all related names are trademarks of their respective owners; they are used here only to describe the game the tools are about. If you spot a number that looks wrong, that feedback is genuinely useful — see the Contact page.
